'Vision' returned to the skies this weekend for further flight testing as Deliverable 2 for the Outback Challenge approaches. The team was able to complete autonomous flights using our autopilot and ground station to satisfy the technical report requirements for Deliverable 2.
After successfully testing our autopilot system, the team completed several package drops and documented the pre flight checks for the video submission. Stay tuned for the release of the team's Deliverable 2 video!
On Sunday, the team travelled to Bendigo Radio Controlled Aircraft Club for the maiden flight of our 2014 competition air frame, 'Vision'.
After a successful design and build phase by the Construction Team, the Flight Operations Team took over to fit out the internal components in order to make 'Vision' flight ready.
Arriving at the airfield, the team members assembled the aircraft in preparation for its maiden flight. We were excited to see the culmination of several months of hard work.
'Vision' took to the skies and immediately impressed with its performance and control. The team was able to complete several flights and bottle drops allowing us to capture footage for our approaching Deliverable 2 submission.
The day was a resounding success for the team. As well as the first flight of 'Vision', we gained significant knowledge from experienced aircraft modellers. We would especially like to thank Les Davis from the Bendigo Radio Controlled Aircraft Club, for guiding us through the certification process.
